We can all get caught up on kid’s shows we love and hate.
I’m not really a kid show lover. I don’t go out of my way to watch kid’s movies. Apart from picture story books, I’m not really a ‘big kid at heart’. I love Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom though. I like witty, intelligent humour. I like children’s shows where the characters have impeccable English. I love it for its personality and creative story lines. If there’s any TV show we would want to see live, this would be it.
So apart from being heaps of fun, what learning would your child get out of seeing Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom?
1.They will learn to have a witty sense of humour
Slapstick is fun, but there’s nothing like a bit of clever humour with an interesting plot thrown in. In the show, Ben and Holly will help their best friend Gaston the Ladybird clean his cave, go on a trip into The Big World with tooth-fairy Nanny Plum, even plan a surprise birthday party for King Thistle, and oops, let’s hope there’s not another jelly flood! Hilarity is sure to ensue.
2. They will learn to appreciate a live performance
TV is a wonderful thing, in moderation…the cinemas, a lovely treat. How often do your kids get to see a live performance? When’s the last time you saw one? It’s a wonderful introduction to the performing arts. They can learn to appreciate what it’s like to visit a theatre and be a part of an audience. It’s a truly unique experience.
3. They will learn to relate to characters
Despite the fact that the characters are elves and fairies, they’re really relatable. Holly, the princess is humble in her mistakes and we all have a ‘wise old elf’ in our lives! After the performance, ask the children who their favourite characters are. You might find, after seeing the show in person, they are much more able to identify the character traits than seeing it on TV.
